Fine Arts Class

Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a broad survey of Fine Arts including Drama, Music, Theatre and Visual Art.

Activities are designed so students can learn how to research, act, design, direct, read music, perform, draw, etc.

The course will be taught through the following units of study: Introduction to the Arts, Prehistoric Period, Greek Period, Roman Period, Renaissance Period, Baroque Period, Classical Period, Romanic Period, 20th Century Period and Modern Period. Also included: Musical Theatre and Broadway, Rock 'n' Roll, Jazz Age, Louisiana Art and Artists.

Course Objectives:

Our goal in Fine Arts is that every student will

A. Be provided the opportunity to excel in an emotionally safe learning environment.

B. Receive a quality learning experience.

C. Be provided a variety of learning experiences/opportunities.

D. Reach the following course goals:

1. Develop the ability to acknowledge and distinguish a fuller awareness of the world through the arts.

2. Develop the ability to express ideas and emotions through participation in the arts.

3. Develop an awareness and understanding of the arts in a historical context and their effects on society in their power to move us.

4. To develop the capacity to make artistic judgements.
